Growth Ring Studios

About Us

Growth Ring Studios builds tools for urban wood — from offline calculators to chain-of-custody tracking — helping sawyers, arborists, and municipalities turn salvaged trees into documented, certifiable lumber. We're a small team that works close to the sawmill and the software alike.

Eric
Co-Founder & CTO

Eric has spent the majority of his career teaching woodworking, metalworking, CNC, CAD, electronics, and engineering skills in public education institutions. A few years ago, he co-founded an educational robotics company that developed a tool for learning computer science in K12 schools, which reached teachers and children around the United States and Latin America. Eric is known for his ability to over-engineer simple solutions while simultaneously starting a variety of projects. His machinist training often underserves him as a woodworker. Eric is currently the main developer of the chain of custody software, Loggistics, and designed the first working prototypes of the kiln controller, Kilntroller.

Andrew
Co-Founder & CEO

Andrew's grandparents nicknamed him "stick man," as he collected sticks on every family outing. The sticks scaled up, and now Andrew collects logs and trees! Before co-founding Growth Ring Studios, Andrew spent 7 years running a university urban wood program in Virginia. He has also worked on the shop floor and machine side of Gaston and Wyatt architectural millwork, as well as working for landscape architects, architects, consulting arborists, and master craftsmen in central Virginia. A landscape architect by training, Andrew brings this range of experience to seeing both the forest and the trees, pushing to provide value and success to stakeholders at every stage of the process. When not picking up sticks, Andrew enjoys cycling, leatherwork, and hiking with his family.
